Nigeria Launches Digital Platform to Track Oil and Gas Methane Emissions

On 30 October 2026, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission received the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Emission Tracker (NOGIET), a digital platform developed through the Stakeholder Democracy Network with support from the Global Methane Hub. The system combines satellite-based methane detection, oil-block and pipeline mapping, and operator-reported emissions data to strengthen environmental monitoring and support Nigeria’s target of reducing methane emissions by 60% by 2035. Oil and gas operators and environmental organisations can explore emissions analytics, monitoring systems and sustainability reporting.
